In these pieces I would like to convey emotion from the perspective of a 10-year- old boy and the internal battles that are faced when dealing with the trauma of witnessing domestic abuse. The work for this series are reminiscent of a child’s journal and his expression to become his mother’s superhero. This work incorporates layers of different techniques. These techniques include traditional practices such as painting, collage, and screen-printing but also involve some digital techniques as well. The work is created through multiple stages of layering with drawing and collage, which then uses a scanning process. Through this process, I create large format digital paintings. With this work I want to examine the different ways that children can be mentally and physically affected through the choices of adults.
